DESCRIPTION
Two lactating cow barns with 3-row pens were remodeled from mattress stalls for deep sand bedding. An 18-inch lunge space addition was built on to the sidewalls of both barns. The head-to-head stall platforms in the first barn were extended 1’ into the feed alley, having removed the concrete mattress stall base and pouring a new curb for deep sand bedding, to accommodate larger, mature Holstein cows. Additionally, single beam-mounted freestall divider loops were installed at 50” on center for the mature cows. A 4×4” treated lumber bedding retainer was anchored to the existing stall platforms in the second barn, which now houses the smaller first lactation Holstein cows, with new divider loops installed at 48” on center.
