Nursing Calf Barn D

DESCRIPTION

New group nursery housing system with a computer-controlled calf feeder for a 300-cow dairy. One, skilled calf manager now easily handles daily feeding and health care of all calves on milk in less time and at a time of day more conveniently set aside for daily calf monitoring and care. Labor previously used on a frequent basis for cleaning hutches and buckets was diverted to other areas of the farm, but help is still needed for moving groups of calves, and then cleaning and re-bedding the group pens. Natural ventilation of this barn was supplemented from the start with a positive pressure ventilation system to deliver a minimum winter ventilation rate of 4 air changes per hour. Grower calf group pens, also featured in their own virtual tour, are sectioned off from the nursery portion of the barn by clear panels for disease control while allowing more natural light in the barn.
